Pedorthics

Our certified staff offers custom-fabricated foot orthotics, shoes, and comprehensive Diabetic foot care. DuPage P&O developed the patented Ulcer Healing Orthosis (UHO) for use with diabetics with foot ulceration.

The custom-made ankle-foot Ulcer Healing Orthosis® (UHO®) is specially designed to help support the lower leg and foot to reduce mechanical stress on the bottom of an ulcerated foot by allowing blood flow to the ulceration. Its design encourages healing while walking can continue.

For many diabetic patients, staying off an ulcerated foot to allow healing to occur is impossible. But continuing to walk may cause additional damage to the unprotected foot, including infection and possibly amputation. An evaluation by a wound care therapist and doctor can determine if the treatment plan calls for use of a UHO by the patient with a non-healing wound of eight weeks or more. The device is very successful when the patient follows his or her doctor's instructions and is compliant with the treatment plan.

DP&O has found that patients who follow the instructions concerning their foot care, and use the Ulcer Healing Orthosis, have about an 83% chance of healing and remaining healed. This is a great relief to the patients and their family members. It reduces many costs associated with wound care. To determine if UHO is appropriate for your care, please contact us or your personal physician.
